The state of our middle schools have struck a growing concern of how well middle schools are being run. The effectiveness of student -teacher interactions and the lack of resources in this level of education remains a growing concern among education advocates. We have the perfect opportunity to make a positive impact on these student's lives, but often the mark is missed. There is way too much time spent on the misbehaviors of these hormonal pupils, when more time needs to involve effective communication, resourceful learning tools and caring teaching personnel. Looking at the growing numbers of drop-out rates is an indication that we have a lot of work to do in reaching young adolescents. When these youngsters reach middle school , they should be equipped with basic learning foundations gained from elementary school. Yet, too often students lack the foundation necessary to move forward in their educational process. Many middle school instructors find themselves having to reteach the basics, spending less time on skills students need to prepare for high school. Not to mention, the everyday issues students deal with before they reach the school doors. Adolescents often bring a lot of their life issues to school, which tend to have a negative impact on their learning abilities. The growing number of issues in school, such as bullying, lack of student compassion, inappropriate student-teacher relationships, and teacher budget cuts, indicates a need to reevaluate the effectiveness of the middle school structure. President Obama is working diligently to bring more teachers back to the classroom with the American Jobs Act, but until then, what do we plan to do within the school walls as these job packages develop?; we, meaning teachers, students, administrators, communities, parents and support personnel. There's a growing need for school supporters to be adequately trained in the area of school needs. School administrators must create comprehensive plans that reflect those needs and act according to their individual school needs. Where do you stand? |
